The Law Firm of David G. Sigale has filed a lawsuit on behalf of two individuals, the Illinois State Rifle Association, and the Second Amendment Foundation against the Illinois State Police and its officials over the lengthy delays of the ISP in responding to FOID appeals. The Plaintiffs in particular had their FOIDs revoked in 2017 for situations that should have been easily corrected, and yet they still have not had their FOIDs returned, despite numerous efforts by the Plaintiffs to do so. The situation may be related all or in part to a sweeping away of $29.5 million in funds that were supposed to be used for firearms services, but whatever the reason, the result is a denial of the Plaintiffs’ Second Amendment rights and intolerable. According to Sigale, “The State’s broken FOID system in Illinois has denied the rights of too many for too long, and this suit aims to remedy that injustice.”
