Sigale Files Lawsuit to Block Gun Dealer Law

On July 16, the Law Firm of David G. Sigale, PC, filed a lawsuit in Springfield to stop the State’s new Firearm Dealer License Certification Act.  On top of the federal payments and regulations with which lawful dealers must already comply, the Act requires the payment of exorbitant (and in many cases, multiple) fees, and requires expensive equipment with no standard for what is sufficient, and which leaves such after-the-fact determination to the sole discretion of the Illinois State Police.  Though passed in the name of public safety, its only actual effect is to push hundreds of lawful dealers throughout Illinois out of business.

Chicago Tribune quoted: “It is our hope that the court will stop the illegal mistreatment of an already heavily regulated market, by a law that will not protect public safety or reduce crime,” said prominent Second Amendment lawyer David Sigale, who is the lead plaintiff’s attorney in the case. “Rather, the law only serves to put lawful businesses out of business, and imposes hardship and arbitrary standards on those that remain.”
